10/05/2019 Cape Final Trail
Early start today to try to obtain a parking spot at the
Kiabab Trail but no success every possible spot was taken up and down the road.
Decided to go the park campground to get some phone calls and intenet.
Successfully made reservation for the next several days in Kanab and close to
Zion National Park. The park campgrounds were full as well as several of the
privates around Zion.
The gentleman at the gas station suggested we try the
Cape Final Trail. The trail is two miles one way but is relatively flat and
wide. At the end you get a nice view in to one of the side canyons. Turned out
to be a very nice hike through the forest.
Since we had not packed lunch we drove back to the hotel and
had lunch in the dinning room. Our seats were right next to the window and the
canyon. Sue’s Asian salad and my fish and chips were fantastic. This was a good
treat for us.
The weather continues to be great and the forecast is more
of the same.
One thing I learned this trip is that the North Rim is
significantly more eroded than the South Rim. The rains on the south drain away
from the canyon, The rains on the North drain into the canyon. This is why the
South rim is much more Vertical than the North.
I should mention that we saw several groups of wild turkeys
this morning.
