10/04/2019 Partical Rewind

Since my mistake of yesterday, we decided to drive the Cape Royal Road a second time and concentrate on the areas we skimmed over before. Driving to the end of the road Angels Window was our first stop. Through the window in the rock you can see the Colorado River down below.
Next stop was to walk out to the Angels Window Point. I must say the wind was really blowing and made me really nervous walking out there. You can walk with me in the video(caution turn your volume down the wind noise is bad.

Cape Royal Overlook

Heading back up the road was Wallhalla Overlook.

Note that you can see the San Francisco peaks in the backround. These peaks are just outside Flagstaff, AZ.

Roosevelt Point would be our next stop. This location was dedicated to President Teddy.

Last stop was Vista Encantada. Here we had lunch while taking in the views.

After lunch it was a drive Forest Service road 611 to find where our friends Tom and Debbie were camped a couple of days ago. The road was washboard but not too bad. We believe they were camped some where close to 611V. We found a number of spots to camp but our taste liked the Demont Campground Site 18 worked just fine.

A early back to camp with the plan tomorrow to leave early to obtain a parking place and hike part of the Kiabab trail.

10/03/2019 Woops

10/03/2019 Woops
Today was our first full day to explore. First stop was to hike out to Bright Angle Point. I should add that the temperature this morning was 25 degrees, but it warmed up quickly.

Next up was to hike part of the Kaibab trail but there was not a parking spot to be had. Alternate plan was to hike part of the Widforss trail. This was a lovely walk through the pines and aspen finally ending up with a great view of one of the side canyons. A little further down the trail we began to see smoke. And we could see men working to put out the remains of a fire from the day before. At this point we turned around and headed back to the truck.

A little further down the main road drove the Cape Royal Road to have lunch at Point Imperial. The drive also took us to Vista Encantada, Rooseveit Point, Walhalla Overlook, and Angels Window. Now back to camp for some Chilie.

Now the Woops, I was working on the blog and goofed up and deleted the folder containing all the pictures we had taken all day. Sorry no pictures only good memories.

Drive from Lake Powell to the North Rim of Grand Canyon

10/02/2019 Drive from Lake Powell to the North Rim of Grand Canyon

We decided to take the scenic route 89A. What a good decision. It took us past Vermillion Cliffs National Monument and a stop at the Navajo Bridge Interpretive Center.

After selecting a nice pull full site we were off to get our first view of the North Rim. Upon entering the park the first thing we saw was a herd of Bison. And of course had to have a picture of a bison paddy, We even stayed for a 4:30 ranger talk on the California Condors. Made for a full day,

10/01/2019 Lower Antelope Canyon Tour

An early start this morning to get us to our 8:15 tour of the Lower Antelope Canyon. Our guide was RJ and he was great at helping us get great pictures and pointing out special places in the canyon. The canyon is deep and very narrow as you will see in the pictures. I won’t bore you with the couple of hundred or more pictures, Just a few to give you and idea of what it was like. You have to do this with a guide and without him we would have missed a lot. The tour company we used was Dixie and Ellis Lower Antelope Canyon Tours.

After the tour it was a stop to see the dam again and then Laundry.

Canyon De Chelly to Page, AZ

09/29/2019 Sunday

Today we left Cottonwood Campground in Canyon De Chelly and ended in Glen Canyon National Recreation area. While the campground signs indicated it was full we went in any way. We were rewarded with a great level spot overlooking Lake Powell and we are here for 3 days. Temps are in the 70’s during the day and 50’s at night. Makes for great sleeping.

Our solar recharges us to 100% by lunch. This includes charging cameras, phones, ipads, CPAP, Laptop, and fans. All of this brings our batteries down to 80% of 200 amp hours in the morning. Lots of reserve capability.
